Again?

My poor grandpa is back in the hospital, and he now has congestive heart failure. He has had heart problems since I was in the third grade. That is when he had his first heart attack. He has had several surgeries and hospital stays since, but somehow he always manages to get better and back to his old self. So far, he is responding fairly well to the diuretics. He is on some oxygen via nasal cannula right now, and we're hoping that he can get some good rest tonight. It sounds like he will be getting cardioversion because his echo showed he was in atrial fibrillation, which is common. It means the atria in his heart are quivering insteading of pumping correctly, and it can lead to irregular heartbeats and blood clots. Cardioversion is used to shock the heart into a normal rhythm, but it is not as dramatic as the defibrillation you see on TV shows. Still, its no walk in the park either....

My mom, aunts, and grandma are all with him right now. Its kind of scary, but Mom assures me that he is doing okay. He is still joking around, so that is always a good sign. For example, the nurse came to take him for a CAT scan. My mom told him they were taking him down for pictures, and he stated, "Wait, I need to put my suit on first." He's funny. :)

Anyway, hopefully they can get this all taken care of, so he can go home soon. The good news is that my dad is doing well, and he is going back to work tonight. He assures me that everything is well with him.

I hate being so far away.
